Pass the Rhine and reach Breisach am Rhein!
This German city in the state of Baden Württemberg is only six kilometers away from Neuf-Brisach, along the Rhine. On the highest point of the city you’ll have a magnificent view over the Rhine and even to the Black Forest, “der Schwarzwald”.
One of Germany's oldest towns
4000 years ago, the Münsterberg hill was home to a princely residence and later a Roman castle. In 1664, Vauban improved the city and its fortifications. Around the 17th and 18th century, Breisach was dominated by the French and the Habsburg. The fortifications were destructed in the 18th century. The city was bombarded in 1793 and at the end of the Second World War (85%).
An invitation to discover German culture
The town has been build alongside the Rhine, which is ideal to stroll around next to the river, through the picturesque alleys or on the market square, where you will find many coffee and ice cream shops. The historic Museum is located in the inside of the Rhine Gate, a huge building designed by Vauban. It is the perfect place if you want to learn more about the town and how it evolved over the centuries.
